KotaKinabalu 26-5June2007

26/5/2007 - (0700) Departed from LCCT, Kuala Lumpur and our destination was Kota Kinabalu (KK). At airport introductions were made to the group members-Lai & wife, ShimYu; 3 pretty ladies Adel, SeokLay & Loo; Chan & wife & 3 kids age 7,9,13; MrPoon age 61; Patrick & son; and myself (14 members for the start). (0930) Arrived at KK, met Alex (15th member) at airport rented a van and collected Lai's friend car for self-drive. (1600) Arrived at Kudat [Tip of Borneo]. (1800) Reached Rungus Long House for a night stay. After bath, we have dinner and was shown some performances. I can't sleep that night. Mozzy and loud snore.

27/5/2007 - (0700) Breakfast. (1000) Arrived Kota Belud for the Tamu market. (1500) Reached Pine Resort.

We can see the Kinabalu range from our balcony. Dinner at Ranau and shopping for necessity, important items are raincoat/poncho, food, water,......

28/5/2007 - (0830) Sightseeing at Kinabalu Park Headquarter (KPH). (1030) Went to Poring Hot Springs, tried the canopy walk which was under maintenance. (1400) Drove to Kundasang Cattle Farm however it was closed! Dinner at Pine Resort.

29/5/2007 - Returned to KPH to station 1 vehicle there. Met Alex and nephew, age 13 (16th member). (1400) Checked in at Mesilau Resort, accomodation chalet style.

30/5/2007 - (0700) Commenced treking.

Keep your eyes on cannibal plants...

Very nice view and scenaries ..........

(1500) Reached Laban Rata together with Alex's nephew.

Alex,Adel&SeokLay reached already. Weather was just nice.Ordered fried rice & hot Milo for lunch.Waited for the other members to arrive. Bathed & prepared bunk for .....zzzzz.....zzzzzz.....zzzz.........zz...z........

31/5/2007 - (0100) Wake up call, boiled water for coffee, Milo and instant noodles. (0200) Commenced treking. The snaking line of dotted lights from other trekkers could be noticed. Slow and steady is the best way for this stretch. Try to reach by 0530 for the best glimpse of sunrise but you have to endure the coldness because when you reached the peak you just need to sit and wait and faced the wind. (0630) Reached Lows Peak. This is the view from the top looking down.........

Try to make thing interesting during ascent/descent by observing at the formation of rocks which have its own name & characters. This is called......

(0730) Descent and take care of slippery way. You will be amazed that during the dark morning ascent, you manage to trek the way up going through all type of terrains. (0900) Reached Laban Rata for lunch. (1000) Downhill back to KPH (1400) and have lunch & dinner at the park. Next we drove back to KK town for a night stay at a rented apartment. We had supper later at a mamak restaurant.

1/6/2007 - Tuanku Abdul Rahman Park - free & easy (f&e) for rest of gangs except two, ShimYu & Adel whom were going for their basic open water course theory.
